Missing spaces after hyphens when using Calibri Light
If you’re using the Calibri Light font, you may notice that spaces after hyphens or minus signs appear to be missing when viewing reports on the web. This is a known issue with the font itself.
What’s happening?
When text is written in Calibri Light, the space after a hyphen (-) or minus sign may not render correctly in web views.
-
The space is still present in Word
-
When paragraph markers are enabled, you can see the space element
-
Visually, the hyphen appears to “eat” the space
This behavior is caused by a defect in the Calibri Light font.
How to fix it
To avoid this issue, replace the regular space before the hyphen with a bold non-breaking space.
Recommended workaround:
-
Use a non-breaking space instead of a regular space
-
Apply bold formatting to the non-breaking space
-
Then insert the hyphen or minus sign
This prevents the space from disappearing when the document is displayed on the web.
When should I use this workaround?
-
Only when using Calibri Light
-
Only if spacing around hyphens or minus signs looks incorrect
-
If switching fonts is not an option
If possible, using a different font will also avoid the issue entirely.
Why this happens
This is a known rendering bug in the Calibri Light font itself, not an issue caused by Wrepit. The font does not always handle spaces around hyphens correctly in web-based rendering engines.
