Line breaks and spaces in Word

The way you use line breaks and spaces in Microsoft Word affects how your content is displayed after uploading the document to Wrepit. This article explains the different options and when to use them.

Soft line break (Shift + Enter)
Use a soft line break when you want to start a new line without adding extra spacing.

  • Creates a line break within the same paragraph

  • Does not add spacing between lines

  • Can only be used within content that shares the same style (for example, within a heading or within body text)

In Word, this keeps the text within the same paragraph element, which is preserved in Wrepit.

Hard line break (Enter)
Use a hard line break when you want to start a new paragraph or section.

  • Separates elements such as headings and paragraphs

  • Adds spacing between elements

  • Used to structure content into distinct blocks

This is the standard way to create new paragraphs in Word and will be reflected in Wrepit.

Non-breaking space
Use a non-breaking space to keep words or elements on the same line.

  • Prevents line breaks between words

  • Ensures related content stays together

  • Useful for names, dates, numbers, or labels that should not be split

Non-breaking spaces in Word are preserved when the document is uploaded to Wrepit.

When should I use each option?

  • Use soft line breaks for tighter layouts within the same paragraph

  • Use hard line breaks to separate content into clear sections

  • Use non-breaking spaces to keep related text together on one line

Using the correct option in Word helps ensure predictable formatting in Wrepit.
